Between the forest and the sea: a bird lover’s paradise
Punta Leona has become a favorite destination for birdwatchers, with over 197 bird species identified here.
Punta Leona is even known as the Scarlet Macaw Capital. These iconic birds can be seen throughout the treetops, showcasing their vibrant beauty.
Our Scarlet Macaw Conservation Program, active for over 30 years, has helped increase their population along the Central Pacific coast—and even beyond, reaching as far as Cangreja and Puriscal. This program has become a national and global reference, thanks to its real-time camera monitoring system that captures the nesting season, chick hatching, and more.
